Account Manager - Brand (Sport)

Intro

Press Box PR, one of the fastest-growing PR agencies in its sector, is looking for an Account Manager to join its Sport Brand team and drive its next phase of growth.

Reporting into the Sport department’s Brand team, we seek an exceptional client service-focused senior account manager who excels in growing the value of accounts by building relationships and who has strong stakeholder management and communication skills. You will also have extensive experience in advising clients from a position of expertise, whilst thriving on being adjacent to and representing exciting creative, PR and talent work.

The successful candidate will also be encouraged to identify and pitch new leads, actively building a contact base within relevant industries.

Press Box PR is a market leader in terms of digital PR activity for the betting and gaming industry. The successful applicant will work for household names and exciting challenger brands in this sector, not only delivering digital PR work but video, creative, sponsorship and ambassador activation ideas, in and around the biggest sports, entertainment and popular culture moments.

You are a PR or marketing communications services professional with at least four years of experience in a client-facing account management role within the sports sector. If you thrive in the hot seat and relish being considered a client’s go-to person, you are ideal for this role.

You have agency experience as an AM or SAM, with an instinct for relationship building, communicating and influencing clients and decision makers. If you are someone who has grown the commercial value of accounts from a position of expertise, creativity and authority, we want to hear from you.

The successful candidate should also be comfortable communicating with and influencing clients and a range of internal stakeholders, aspiring to learn more about how the client communication process drives commercial growth within an agency.

A working knowledge of digital PR, SEO and performance marketing is essential, whilst an experience and enthusiasm for Sport and knowledge of the Sport media/PR landscape is essential, as is experience in a client-facing role in a relevant agency or organisation.

The Press Box PR team has grown from 0 to over 45 in the space of five years and combines extensive journalistic experience with top PR professionals to offer a unique proposition in the market.

Press Box PR is a fast-growing PR agency, staffed predominantly by journalists who have made successful moves into PR. Formed in 2020, Press Box PR has grown quickly to become a thriving 45 person agency working for a range of consumer, sport and B2B clients on digital and creative PR projects.

Press Box PR is based in Barbican, central London and operates a hybrid model meaning teams spend an average of three days a week working away from home with colleagues in the office and clients at varying sites.

The role

Built on the foundations of digital PR, the past couple of years has seen us develop our Brand PR offering, working with a range of high profile and established brands within the sports ecosystem.

With a focus on press office management, end-to-end delivery of events, and creative PR campaigns, the Press Box Brand team has become a growing force within the agency.

Your primary objective will be to manage the day-to-day operations of some of our Brand PR accounts. This is a client facing role, with structured communication at the centre of the role.  

You will be tasked with leading the management of a select number of brand accounts, from the creative ideation, to the press office delivery, and the reporting of all coverage and success.

You will also be encouraged to nurture media relationships, getting to know key journalists and editors in order to maximise the value you add to their news-gathering process. You will be expected to successfully pitch your peers and contacts at journalist and editor level at major outlets, as well as continually searching for new publications to land coverage in and build relationships with.

You’ll be given training and support to learn the non-editorial side of the job at your own pace, safe in the knowledge that through your understanding of media, creativity and contacts book, you’re already an expert in the most important aspects of the job.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience either working at a PR agency or as a digital sports journalist/editor at a mainstream online news publication
  • Experience managing the ongoing press office on an account
  • Experience delivering end-to-end campaigns for clients
  • Competent in planning, reporting and project management including communication with stakeholders at all levels
  • A network of relevant journalist & editor contacts - and an ability to grow more
    Strong writing skills
  • An understanding of online publishing and the ability to design and pitch stories successfully to journalists and editors both from warm and cold relationships
  • A strong understanding of how PR works to complement journalists and the news/content gathering process
  • Committing to regular attendance in our central London office

An added bonus

  • In-depth knowledge of football, as well as knowledge of other sports, including horse racing, cricket, boxing, UFC, golf, tennis, rugby and F1
  • Experience as an editor/managing a team
  • Experience working with commercial departments and brands
  • Experience in pitching, commercial copywriting and design of presentations and other reporting/sales materials
  • Basic understanding of SEO, public relations and content marketing strategies

Salary, benefits and perks

  • £35,000 - £45,000 DOE

Press Box PR operates on an office-first hybrid model consisting of three days a week in the office, with another two days at home. The role may also involve occasional travel within the UK and beyond.
